Canon Pixma MX700 All-in-One Inkjet Printer Review
This printer was purchased to replace an HP unit that gave me all kinds of headaches. When I first got this printer I fell completely in love it. It has amazing print quality, networking capabilities, quick scanning, etc. However, the other day when I tried to do a large scanning and copying job, my previous love for this printer turned into immediate frustration. When I first began the copies were being churned out at about a speed of 10-15 seconds per page. However, after I it got through about 30 pages, the canon pixma mx700 printer began to slow down, to the point of only making about 1 copy per minute. Then I tried to do a scanning job of about 75 pages, I received the same performance as the copying job during this attempt. The scanner often displayed a message saying “scanner warming up”. Maybe this unit is defective, but I am on my way to returning it. I plan to call Canon and ask if this is a normal occurrence for the canon pixma 700 inkjet printer.
Based on a review that I read from another user, it seems like the slowdown may have been caused by the memory of the printer being too full. It’s really too bad, because other than this annoyance, this printer would be absolutely perfect.
The scan quality of this printer is a lot better than my previous HP model printer. The software that comes with this printer is really great as well, it is really easy to install on my mac that is. The fax machine is incredibly smart, when I tried faxing using my old HP printer, I used to have to unplug it just to make sure that the fax wouldn’t answer the phone every time it rang, when I didn’t want it to. The canon provides you with the capability to tell it that the phone has priority over the fax, and it won’t pick it up.
The printing function works great. I have set up this printer on 3 different computers so I can access my network from any of the three. However, it did take me a moment to figure out that I needed to use the “Canon IJ Network” option in the my computer drop down menu to be able to see the printer. Also, the copy function works great too, other than the slowness when you are trying to copy a large number of documents at once. It is similar to my old HP, but the print quality seems a bit better. Another bad note, this printer does seem to use a lot of ink.
Overall, I am pretty happy with this printer other than the few problems that I mentioned. It completes all of the functions that I use it for nicely. I would recommend the canon pixma 700 printer to anyone looking for a printer for basic functionality.
